Robert Colescott worked in a number of mediums throughout his long career, including a variety of print techniques from serigraphy and lithography to woodcuts and etchings. Five editions made from 1989 to 1997 are featured in the gallery’s Colescott Print Shop.

The four-color edition of I love you forever, made in October 1993, is a tribute to Colescott’s fifth wife, Colleen Hench, and depicts the couple staring lovingly into each other’s eyes. In 1992, the year before I love you forever was printed, Colescott and Hench divorced after she came out as a lesbian. The two remained close friends until Colescott’s passing in 2009. A single-color lithograph edition of I love you forever made earlier in 1993 was included in a portfolio of work by twenty-three Black artists—Voices, An Artists’ Book (1994)—published by the Michigan Chapter of the National Conference of Artists. The book featured work by Sam Gilliam, David Driskell, Richard Mayhew, Sharon E. Sutton, and Shirley Woodson, among others.

These prints are signed and come directly from The Estate of Robert H. Colescott. All prints are unframed.
